To fulfill President Xi Jinping’ commitment at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation of providing 1 billion dollars to the relevant international organizations to help Congo and Central African Republic deal with their food shortage, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative Yu Jianhua, on behalf of the Chinese government, signed the cooperation agreements with UNWFP and UNHCR respectively. The Chinese government will provide US$5 million as designated fund to UNWFP based on the items of South-South cooperation assistance fund to offer emergency food assistance to Congo and Central African Republic and provide US$3 million as designated fund to UNHCR to offer daily supplies to the homeless in Congo. At present, the Ministry of Commerce, UNWFP and UNHCR are promptly arranging the implementation of certain assistance projects to help the related countries deal with humanitarian crisis.
